Siberian University of Consumer Co-operatives was founded in 1956. It trains highly qualified specialists for the country’s economy.\nThere are four departments in our university: Trade and Technology Department, Economics and Management Department, Law department and Department of Further Education.\nIf you want to enter the university, you must first pass Unified State Examinations (USE) that most students take at the age of seventeen - eighteen.\nUndergraduate students study for their first degree. Undergraduates go to large, formal lectures, but most of the work takes place in tutorials: lessons in groups of ten or more when the students discuss their work with the lecturer.\nUndergraduate course lasts four years. When students finish the course and pass their examinations, they receive a bachelor’s degree.\nWhen you complete your first degree, you can graduate from the university and start looking for a job. Some students go on to do a second course in order to get a master’s degree. It takes two more years of studying and research work. Students can also take postgraduate courses to get a PhD (highest university degrees).\nStudents study general subjects, for example, Mathematics, Philosophy,Foreign Language and so on; and special subjects: Banking, Marketing, Law, Accounting and Finance.\nNot all students study full-time at the university. Many of them combine their studies with work as they have to pay for university.
